The act of drawing is a soothing, almost meditative process for me. I am happiest when my work comes from a gestural, exploratory place.  My enjoyment for working with materials stems from my need to experiment with them to discover marks that create a balance of new technique and visual impact.

I make use of various materials when I am drawing. I rely on the physicality of my process to unearth new ways to implement drawing materials- to push the limits of a material. Often times the pure mark and layering of elements will uncover the content of the work. I depend on my senses to guide the action of the drawing process.  I like to feel the drag of china markers, to feel the graphite warm and stretch in my hand and to feel the pencil scratch or blend on a surface- to dig deeper and try to experience the true essence of mark making.

I am not interested in representation as drawing what I am looking at, but only  to record the combination of marks and techniques that build to create interesting line quality, contrast, and overall composition. My true interests lie in the process of getting on paper  what was never there.  I like the idea of "the unique" and respond to the concepts of expression and personal visual voice.
